Born 1940: educated Public School (Endsleigh) Colchester.
Ray Hodgkinson’s career has spanned some 59 years in the healthcare industry.
Started career in the official solicitors department at the Law Courts for a short time, then he began a career in the pharmaceutical industry, which led him into the many facets of Healthcare and Assistive Technology industry we see today, both in the UK and overseas.
His experience covers virtually all aspects of healthcare.
From a pharmaceutical training through sales management, he fulfilled a personal vision to have his own company that pioneered a number of new product areas over a 22-year period introducing new devices for treatment of pressure sores, nerve stimulation system for birth pain control and is the person responsible for introducing the Mobility Scooter to the UK in 1978.
Formerly Director General of BHTA for 16 years he continues advisory role with GS1 Healthcare Advisory Body, National Wheelchair Alliance and Convener of ISO Support surfaces standards committee. His role with the BHTA involved him in a broad spectrum of activities and advising groups at government level. He has a belief and enthusiasm for the industry and the BHTA and wishes to take it forward, establishing standards and ethics, which will earn the respect of all healthcare professionals, the general public, and influence policy in Assistive Technologies. Some of this work has culminated in the BHTA achieving an Office of Fair Trading approved Code of Practice and in 2010 he was awarded the MBE for services to the Healthcare Industry.
His interests cover classic cars, antiques, steam railways and gardening.
