BHTA members involved in home adaptations, access solutions, and independent living support are encouraged to review a new tender opportunity from Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council for the design, manufacture, and installation of modular ramps and associated services.
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council administers Disabled Facilities Grant adaptations for privately owned, housing association, and privately rented properties in Barnsley.
The council is seeking a provider through a below-threshold open competition to design, manufacture, and install modular ramped access solutions, including associated works such as low-level threshold doors. The Disabled Facilities Grant team processes around 30 modular ramped access installations each year, with anticipated annual expenditure of approximately £100,000.
Ramped access referrals come from the council’s Occupational Therapy Team, which medically assesses a person’s requirements for level access to and from a property. Where a modular ramped access solution is deemed to meet the person’s current and long-term needs, a recommendation is made to the DFG Team to process a Disabled Facilities Grant to fund all or part of the costs of the installation.
This tender is suitable for modular ramp suppliers, access solution providers, and home adaptation contractors able to deliver design, manufacture, installation, and associated works for Disabled Facilities Grant-funded adaptations.
The evaluation weighting is quality 50 percent, pricing 45 percent, and social value 5 percent, with the Procurement Specific Questionnaire assessed on a pass/fail basis.
