New tender opportunity: Dudley Council seeks provider for minor home adaptations contract

BHTA members specialising in home adaptations, accessibility solutions, and independent living products are encouraged to review a new tender opportunity issued by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council.

The council is inviting bids for a four-year contract to deliver minor adaptation works in privately owned and rented homes across the borough. The project aims to support residents with mobility and accessibility needs, helping them to live safely and independently in their homes.

Tender overview

The contract, valued at approximately £2 million (excluding VAT), covers a wide range of small-scale adaptations designed to improve accessibility and mobility within domestic properties. Dudley Council intends to appoint a single provider to deliver the works between 1 May 2026 and 30 April 2030.

The successful contractor will be responsible for delivering around 2,100 adaptations each year, with most to be completed within a seven-day target timeframe. Works will include both internal and external improvements to homes across the borough.

Scope of works

Typical works under the contract include:

• Supply and installation of grab rails, drop-down rails, and stair rails
• Construction of small ramps, steps, and path levelling
• Installation of external handrails and other safety fittings
• Minor electrical works, including security lighting and additional sockets

The contract is classed as below-threshold open competition and will be evaluated in line with the council’s published Invitation to Tender (ITT) documents.
