Tender opportunity: Ministry of Defence seeks specialist provider for prosthetics and orthotics rehabilitation

BHTA members providing prosthetic and orthotic products, clinical services, and rehabilitation support are encouraged to review a new Ministry of Defence (MOD) tender for an on-site prosthetics and orthotics rehabilitation service at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) in the East of England. The service will form part of the centre’s interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitating severely injured service personnel.

Tender overview

The contractor will provide upper- and lower-limb prostheses following primary amputation, support established prosthetic users with complex needs or high-level demands, and care for patients with complex orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, and neurological conditions requiring orthotic devices.

The contractor will serve inpatients and outpatients using the DMRC’s purpose-built clinical, administrative, manufacturing, and workshop facilities, and must supply a prosthetic and orthotic management IT system.

Routine and emergency appointments will take place during normal working hours, with no out-of-hours requirement. The contractor must, however, be able to provide additional prosthetist, orthotist, and technician capacity at short notice if the MOD activates its surge capability. All staff will require Disclosure and Barring Service and national security vetting checks.

This tender is suitable for SMEs and voluntary, community, and social enterprises, as well as larger providers, with the technical, clinical, and operational capacity to deliver the full service.

Evaluation

Tenders will be evaluated on commercial cost, weighted at 50 percent, and technical quality, weighted at 50 percent.
