Our Code is at the heart of our association. It sets out rigorous rules that our members commit to, giving you confidence that the companies you buy from are ethical and trustworthy.
Importantly, being a member of the BHTA is not mandatory; it is a commitment that companies who believe in going above and beyond make for their customers.
By choosing one of our members, you can be confident that the advice they give, products they sell, and services they provide, have your best interests at heart. Check our member directory to find a member
The BHTA Code of Practice is the first in the healthcare industry to have been approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) Consumer Codes Approval Scheme (CCAS).
Regularly audited by the CTSI, our Code achieved approval by clearly demonstrating our dedication to improving industry service standards for consumers.
Our Code details stringent requirements that our members commit to. It also enables us to hold members to account in the event that you believe you have been treated unfairly.
In particular, our Code provides you:
Reassurance that our members’ behaviour, customer service, approach to sales, and terms & conditions relating to refunds are regulated
Peace of mind that our members put the needs of their customers’ first, and are committed to providing high-quality aftersales service
Support from us in the event of a dispute arising, with independent arbitration available at no cost to you
Certainty that you can trust in the advice, information, products and services that our members provide to you
The rules of conduct set out in our Code of Practice are comprehensive, however, there are 10 principles that our Code is built on.
If you are about to buy a new healthcare or assistive technology product or service,
or need help following a purchase, we can help.
