Founded in 1917, the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) is a non-profit trade association that has been championing better healthcare for over 100 years.
Our more than 400 members of retailers, installers, service providers, distributors and manufacturers range from sole traders to multinationals within the UK’s healthcare and assistive technology sector, employing over 18,500 people.
We bring the industry together to help shape and improve the health and care of the nation through our three core pillars of work – consumer protection, membership services, and policy and standards. We are at the forefront of improving standards for the provision of quality healthcare and assistive technologies.
Each and every BHTA member commits to adhering to our Code of Practice – the first and only code in the healthcare industry to have been approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). This code ensures that those who need our members’ products and services can trust that the company is professional, ethical, and has their best interests at heart.
For everyone to have access to the best products and support available, so they can live healthier and more independent lives.
To champion the interests of our members, and raise the profile of the work of the British healthcare and assistive technology sector.
To bring the healthcare and assistive technology industry together, giving companies a voice in their shared endeavour to help people live independent, healthier lives
Our four core values
At the core of the BHTA are four values, which we maintain whenever we represent our members and our industry:
We dedicate all our efforts to supporting the needs, and enhancing the experience, of our members
We reach out and work with stakeholders who share our vision of better healthcare for all
We ensure all our actions are transparent and ethical to uphold our reputation of trust and integrity
We foster a culture devoted to providing exceptional service for members, and to championing the industry
