BHTA responds to the closure of NRS Healthcare

Today, 1 August 2025, we were saddened to hear of the closure of NRS Healthcare, a longstanding and highly respected organisation within the community equipment services sector.  NRS Healthcare has been a valued member of the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) for many years, and we have seen first-hand their commitment to improving the lives of patients through the delivery of high-quality services and equipment.

Our thoughts are with the employees whose livelihoods will be directly affected, as well as the patients and communities who rely on NRS Healthcare’s services and now face an uncertain future.

This announcement is expected to cause disruption across the sector—not only for our members who have supplied equipment through NRS, but also for the many local authorities and NHS services that have depended on their infrastructure. If not supported, there is a very real threat to the Community Equipment Supply Chain in the UK. Small and medium sized businesses are most in danger, with this closure impacting their cash flow, stock supply and loss of sales.     

Community equipment services play a vital role in supporting the health and social care system.  These services are essential in enabling timely hospital discharges, promoting independent living, and reducing pressure on acute care settings.

As the Government rightly looks to shift more care into community settings, the role of these services will only become more important.  It is essential that there is a clear plan to ensure continuity of provision and minimal disruption for patients and professionals alike.  BHTA urges Government to work as quickly as possible with remaining UK suppliers of community equipment services to ensure safe, timely, and fair supply of community equipment.

BHTA stands ready to work with Government, commissioners, and stakeholders across the sector to help stabilise the system and protect this critical service.
