The British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) is seeking two dynamic and forward-thinking individuals to join our esteemed Board of Directors.
About Us: The BHTA is the UK’s oldest and largest healthcare association, representing over 400 companies in the healthcare and assistive technology sectors. Our mission is to champion our members, protect consumers, shape policy, and drive standards.

What we’re looking for:
- Diversity: BHTA Directors are committed to representing over 400 member companies and their 18,500 employees. A diverse Board is therefore important to BHTA, and applications from under-represented groups are encouraged.
- Strategic leaders: Individuals with a clear vision for the future of healthcare trade and a strategic approach. It is important that you feel able to represent all members and sections of the BHTA.
- Industry experts: Professionals with extensive experience and expertise in healthcare, medical devices, assistive technology, or related fields. Directors would particularly welcome applications from members within the Prosthetics, Orthotics, FAME, Defibrillator and Pressure Care, Seating and Positioning Sections which are currently under-represented on the Board.
- Innovative thinkers: Creative problem-solvers who can bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions.
- Committed ambassadors: Passionate about ethical business practices and dedicated to improving healthcare standards in the UK.
- Communications and PR expertise: Applications from individuals with experience in marketing, communications and PR would also be encouraged, an area of where the Board would welcome further expertise.
Your responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction and governance to the BHTA.
- Participate in board meetings and contribute to high-level decision-making.
- Support and guide the association’s initiatives, ensuring alignment with our vision, mission and goals.
- Engage with stakeholders, including members, policymakers, and industry partners.

Timeline:
The closing date for applications is Friday 5 July 2024
Interviews will be held across July and August, with a recommendation being made to the November board meeting and to be approved at the December 2024 AGM.
It is anticipated that new Directors would start their role in January 2025.
